HUDSON VALLEY HISTORIC HOME: Designer's Country home & Garden

THE FEDERAL FARMHOUSE HOUSE

This vintage farmhouse (circa 1825) was purchased in 2000 and we spent the first few years renovating and restoring the house and the next five years creating a garden. The property is located in Kent Cliffs, New York, lower Hudson Valley, about 70 minute drive from midtown Manhattan. The train stop is Cold Spring and is 70 minutes to GCS. The area is full of natural beauty and lots of protected land and parks.

The main house is original, and we have restored working shutters, the porche, the working fireplace, and many other features. The home has an addition (builit 1950's) in the rear which looks seamless to the original and added space for a new kitchen and additional bedroom. The house is 2400 Sq. ft of living space which includes a large eat in kitchen, 3 bedrooms, living room, media room, study/library, 1 1/2 baths, plus additional areas: wine cellar, stone outbuilding used as a garage, covered porch, terraces and gardens.

The interiors and gardens were designed by Michael Schoeller. The residence is set on two acres surrounded by protected land which adds to the private rural atmosphere. It is a 15 minute drive to Cold Spring Train station, perfect for weekend and holiday guests.

The house looks like a classic Merchant and Ivory sketch in the winter with a little snow on the ground.

STONE GARAGE

The date of the stone outbuilding is not known but locals think its over 100 years old. Currently used as a two vehicle garage.

INTERIORS

THE LIVING ROOM

The living room has an original working fireplace, paneling details around windows and walls. French doors were added to flow from the hall way and then outside to the restored covered porch. Floors are dark rich stained fir and pine and have been completely re-finished.

The dining room has wainscotting and french doors leading to the main terrace.

CHEF'S KITCHEN

The kitchen has viking stainless steel appliances throughout, honed black granite lines the main counter, the island is 2" thick hard rock maple. This eat in kitchen can sit four at the cafe table and two at the island. Granite stone floors and custom cabinetry and wainscotting finish the space.

WINE CELLAR

The custom wine cellar includes 1200 bottle storage, tasting room with table for six, exposed beams and antique pine liquor cabinet. Bluestone floors set in a diamond pattern are throughout space.

MASTER BEDROOM

Located upstairs at the rear of the house, this room is quiet and over looks the garden. Walk in closet, bathroom off bedroom, flat screen TV, hardwood floors and custom sisal rug.

STUDY

The study is located on the secound floor and next to the master bedroom. Custom linen Ralph Lauren upholstery, desk and flat screen TV are features along with a wall of bookcases and custom storage. Sisal rug and RL silver library lights finsih the room.

GUEST BEDROOM EAST

The east guest room has hardwood floors, sisal rugs, custom metal table, iron bed and large closet.

GUEST BEDROOM WEST

The west guest room has two twin beds, a stickley desk and comfortable club chair. Hardwood floors, closet and built in storage nook.

MAIN BATHROOM

The main bath has been completely renovated, marble sink hand made tile for the shower/tub area, marble tile on floors and wainscotting on walls. Brushed nickel finishes on hardware throughout.
